The 22nd Anniversary CPBC Gala Dinner was held on May 17th at the House of Commons in Ottawa.

Mr. Jim Karygiannis, MP, was kind enough to facilitate the event and offered his enormous support to CPBC to make this event a great success. Later in the evening Mr. Karygiannis was presented with a plaque as token of appreciation as a Friend of CPBC.

A bus was arranged to transport guests from Toronto to Ottawa and return. The organizers were extremely pleased to see a turnout of approximately 200 participants and guests, which included the ministers, parliamentarians, ambassadors, leading businessmen and high level officials from various government sectors, including Foreign Affairs, CIDA, Industry Canada, Export Development Corporation, Environment Canada, etc.
In his short address at the dinner, And Merchant reiterated the message of the role of Diaspora in enhancing the trade between Canada and Pakistan, as well as the partnerships that CPBC has formed with CME, Royal Commonwealth Advantage, International Chamber of Commerce and Federation of Pakistan. He conveyed the message that Pakistan is open for business and the decision makers for South Asia should include Pakistan in their policies.

CPBC was able to achieve yet another milestone due to the dedicated efforts and commitment of its directors, advisors and the various levels of sponsorships received. His Excellency Shahid Malik, High Commissioner for Pakistan, spoke about the strong economic indicators for a condusive investment climate in Pakistan and spoke about CIDA’s role from the early days of the independence of Pakistan.
Dinner was a successful event
The key-note speaker, His Excellency Ferry de Kerckhove, spoke about the time he has spent in Pakistan, both growing up as a child in Peshawar and later as the High Commissioner for Canada. He spoke about the weaknesses and strengths of the country’s economy, and gave a broader economic picture to those interested in doing business with Pakistan. His sincere and frank speech came across as a true friend of Pakistan.
Ms. Roohi Ahmed played a wonderful role as the Master of Ceremonies in a professional manner and she captured the audience’s attention throughout the evening.
Mr. Anwar Khorshid and his group of "The Toronto Sitar School" entertained the audience during the dinner by playing the fine melodies on sitar and tabla.
This was the first time CPBC has presented awards to recognize its sponsors as well as the first elected Canadians of Pakistani origin. Awards were presented to the following:
